Freshly varnished!

Perfect timing for the daily prompt today!  This past weekend a friend stopped by the store to say hello and to drop off a freshly varnished cane her husband had finished for another woman who was popping in today.  They missed each other but the cane was left there for her.  It was so beautifully done!  I couldn’t help but ask her if her husband would do one for me because I had been looking for one for a Charles Dickens photo shoot.  I didn’t find one suitable so I had to insert one in to the photos.  This one would have been perfect!  Even though it was after the fact for the photo shoot I would probably have more people who would want a cane for a prop.

My friend, who is the most thoughtful, well-meaning person immediately said her husband would do this for me.  She called later that evening because her husband wanted to know if I would prefer it done in black considering it was for photo shoots.  I thought of that myself but didn’t want to be too demanding.  Two days later they both returned to the store and handed me the most beautifully crafted, real wood cane he had varnished to a perfect high gloss black.  It was amazing, see featured image.  They would not accept any money for the cane.

It saddens me to learn that my friend’s husband is ill right now and is undergoing blood work to see if he has cancer.  Oh my gosh, they are both so distraught over this, still he managed to make this cane for me.  I told them I did not know a couple of days ago that he was so ill.  I would not have requested a cane.  They both agreed it was a perfect project  because staying busy helps keep their minds off of the sickness.

This cane will forever have special meaning in my life.  I hope and pray he does not have cancer, if he does I hope and pray he comes through it.  Research has come so far in recent years so there is still hope.  I am truly blessed to have friends like that!

Until next time,

I’m Frazzled Again.

  2. Lovely post, picture, and well wishes for those who touched your life. You touched theirs too in more ways than one – and have created the opportunity for others to wish them well too. Wishing you all good news!
